Good Housekeeping’s Cake Book.

February 13, 2013 by The Diner of Cville...

When I was a child, my mother used to make a bunny-shaped cake every year for Easter. I actually squealed when I reached page 52 of this cookbook. There it was. Our bunny cake mold. In all its ugliness. It resembled not so much a bunny as some kind of white roadkill ;)

In the Good Housekeeping Cake Book you’ll find every sort of recipe for classic cakes such as Devil’s Food and Angel, but there’s also wonderfully retro cakes like Princess Cake, California Prune Cake (bleh!) and Glamour Torte! Now who wouldn’t want a Glamour Torte?

Sections include: Cakes to Cream, Quick-Method Cakes, Chiffon, Sponge & Angel Food, Cupcakes, Special Day and Birthday, Cakes from the Freezer and Cake-Desserts.

Very thorough instructions throughout for the baking beginner, including photograph how-to’s. There’s instructions for frosting cupcakes…wow, were they ugly back then! And also tons of recipes for different frostings and fillings for your next 8-layer creation.

68 pages; 6 x 8.5 inches; 1958.

Condition: Very Good. Slight wear on a few of the inner pages where they’ve been bent. Very slight staining. Pencil mark inside cover.
